Kevin Costner recounts in an interview with People magazine an exchange he had a few years ago with Prince William, about his mother, Diana.

Kevin Costner stole a few hearts in the 1990s, at the time of Dancing with the wolves And Bodyguard. Including that of Princess Diana. In any case, this is what Prince William told him when they met in the early 2010s.

“I happened to be in England and I received a message saying that the prince wanted to speak to me,” he recalled in an interview with People magazine. “We met in this room, where the chairs were still stacked on top of each other. It was just us. I’m sure there was someone [à l’extérieur], but it was just him and me. There was no one else there.”

“He came over and we shook hands and sat down and the first sentence he said was, ‘You know, my mother had a thing for you.’

The actor explains that he was in contact in the early 1990s with the Princess of Wales, whom he had imagined for a time in a sequel to the film Bodyguard.

Presented by Sarah Ferguson

“I wanted to make a sequel to Bodyguard. It was really a very low-key project, because that’s how I operate, I really keep things to myself,” says Kevin Costner. “It eventually came out that maybe Princess Diana was going to do it. We spoke, it was very friendly. It was Sarah (Ferguson, Diana’s ex-sister-in-law), who organized things.”

“Sarah organized the meeting, she was really nice although she could have said ‘I’m a princess too, why not me?’. But she didn’t say that at all, so Diana and I started talking “, he adds.

Kevin Costner had already mentioned in 2019 this meeting with Diana and the fact of having considered the princess for the role.

Kiss scene

“I remember she was incredibly nice on the phone when she asked the questions,” he said at the time. “She said, ‘Are we going to have a kiss scene? But she said it in a very respectful way – she was a little nervous because I think her life has been very regimented.’

Princess Diana enjoyed rubbing shoulders with British and American stars. the singer Elton John, who was friends with the princess, recounted in his memoirs that the actors Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere had competed for Diana’s favors during an evening in 1994.

The princess also danced with John Travolta in 1985 at the White House. During the same evening, she waltzed into the arms of Tom Selleck (Magnum) and Clint Eastwood. She was also close to singer George Michael and actress Liza Minnelli.
