This Monday, June 17, Don Omar announced on his Instagram account that he was fighting cancer. “Today yes, but tomorrow I will no longer have cancer” he captioned his photo, which shows his hospital bracelet from an Orlando medical center. “Good intentions are well received. See you soon. #f–kcancer“, he added.
This Tuesday, the day after his announcement, Don Omar posted a new photo where we see him making a “V” with his fingers, as a sign of victory. He wrote in the caption: “Today I woke up cancer free and gratefulwelcomes the Puerto Rican star, adding, my operation was a success and now it remains to recover“. Considered by many fans and specialists as “the king of reggaeton”, Don Omar has not given further details on the type of cancer he has, nor on the treatment he is receiving.
After beginning his musical career in the 1990s, he greatly contributed to popularizing reggaeton beyond the borders of Latin America by releasing his first album, titled The Last Donin 2003. This includes titles which have become real references of reggaeton like Dale don dale, Dile or Pobre Diablahelping to propel him to superstardom.
Reggeaton star, he became famous thanks to the hit Dance Kuduro which he performs with the Portuguese artist Lucenzo, which has become one of the most emblematic songs of his career. Don Omar is also known for his influence on the Latin music scene and for helping to popularize reggaeton beyond the borders of Latin America.
