Iggy Pop fan….des Unknown. The American rock singer paid tribute to French comedians by broadcasting one of their songs on his show Radio 6 Music, on the BBC, this Sunday June 16. He chose Mano Negra’s parody “It’s You That I Love You”, released in 1991.

The Unknowns and….Françoise Hardy

In the show, the singer explains that it is a French friend who sent him the title performed by aFrench comedy troupe“, which he defined as “a punk nugget“thanks to its melody.”It’s a strange song where the protagonist explains how he will change to conquer the object of his desire. And at one point he says I won’t piss in the sink anymore“, he explains, translating this last sentence into French.

The piece, composed by Bernard Campan, Didier Bourdon and Pascal Légitimus and which is one of the Inconnus’ biggest hits, found its place among dozens of other titles in Iggy Pop’s very eclectic playlist. Discoveries that he offers every Sunday to BBC listeners for a month and the launch of his show. And for that of June 16, he had chosen several French songs: besides ‘It’s you that I love“, we also found “Panik“, from Métal Urbain and “I’ll be seing you“, which he sang with Françoise Hardy, passed away Tuesday June 11 at the age of 80.
