young people painted a fresco on a stadium stand in Sarlat

There were a dozen of them, Wednesday October 30 at 2 p.m. sharp, near the Saint-Michel stadium in Sarlat (Dordogne), located on the road to Montignac. The goal of the afternoon? Paint a mural on the concrete grandstand of the stadium.

“Initially, we wanted to do it on the wall of the La Canéda complex,” reveals Toufik Benchenna, youth leader within the intercommunality. But it would have been behind the handball goals and we said to ourselves that with the ball being shot, there was a risk that the fresco would crumble after a while. »

The name of the town has been painted.

It was therefore in Saint-Michel that it was carried out. “We took stock with Audrey Lobry, who works in the town hall’s sports department,” explains the manager. And that’s how we decided to do that on the stand of the Saint-Michel football stadium! »

Despite the existence of a field in La Canéda, Saint-Michel is still occupied by the Sarlat football school, but also the seniors who come to train there. It was therefore on Wednesday, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., that the young people of the intercommunality used bombs and paintbrushes.

Another project soon?

“Initially, it was supposed to last two days,” smiles Toufik Benchenna. But we made such good progress that by the end of the day on Wednesday, it was over. » The stated goal is to develop artistic expression among young people. “And they really come from the entire Community of Communes,” adds the organizer: Vézac, Marquay, Tamniès, Proissans and, of course, Sarlat. » Aged 11 to 18, they spent the afternoon together.

One of the objectives was to strengthen group cohesion.

“This also strengthens group cohesion, which was the second objective sought,” says Toufik Benchenna. But there's no question of doing anything. On this fresco, the name of the town of Sarlat appears in red, on a blue background. “We had very good feedback,” says the host. Whether from young people, parents or the mayor. »

A success which could call for other projects, on another intercommunity in the sector. “It’s under discussion,” says Toufik Benchenna. But if it happens, it won't be before mid-2025.”
