Friday October 18, 2024, a plaque was unveiled at the entrance to the Saint-Cyran tower, on Place Gambetta. The building located in the center of Châteauroux has received the “Remarkable Contemporary Architecture” label.

On the occasion of the National Architecture Days which were held throughout the weekend, Dominique Tourrès, municipal councilor responsible for town planning, and Danielle Perret, president of the residence’s union council, inaugurated this plaque in front of around fifteen people, the vast majority of whom were residents of the building.

Among the spectators, Annie Bassot was present, accompanied by her little dog, Rubis. “I can’t leave him in the apartment, confides Annie, since we just moved in, he’s completely lost when I walk away. » If Annie took up residence on the tenth floor on Thursday October 17, it is not the first time that she has moved there.

“One day, I will live there!” »

« I lived on the fifth floor for five or six years, before leaving Châteauroux to take care of my mother three years ago “, she explains. Back in the Castelroussine city, she patiently waited for an apartment to become available to relocate to Place Gambetta. “ The view is magnificent from 10e. Living here is extraordinary “, she says.

The Gambetta building was built at the end of the 1950s by architects Pierre Bouguin and Robert Csali, in place of the old theater. Delivered in 1959, the “building” contrasts with the neighboring traditional constructions. “ We didn’t see ones like that at the time. », remembers Annie Bassot. The resident remembers coming in for a medical appointment in the early 1960s, just 15 years old at the time. “ I was in awe, and I immediately said to myself: “One day, I will live there.” »

It’s done, in this building where major overall renovation work is planned, to meet new energy standards. After insulation, they are going to redo the facades identically, because it is classified », slips Annie, delighted that her building will soon be back on track. Work is expected to begin in June 2025.
