The habitats of tomorrow are also those that we do not yet know. Architects Najmus Chowdhry and Nils Remess believe that we will live in the clouds due to lack of space. Downtown Circle is the illustration of this concept. “The idea is to create a vertical city,” explains one of the co-founders of ZN Era Space. The giant ring has everything of a metropolis – housing, shops, restaurants, offices, hospital, research center – built on five levels, the last of which houses a Skypark which allows it to be sustainable and self-sufficient. Acting like a lung, this space includes swamps, waterfalls, dunes, tropical vegetation and various gardens accessible to all. Rainwater collectors, solar panels and carbon traps allow the infrastructure to be energy efficient.

A circular metro to get around

Travel is made using trains suspended from a rail, offering a panoramic view of the bay. The wealthiest can take off as they wish aboard their personal aircraft. For Nils Remess, this model of urban construction is a good response to man’s encroachment on nature.
