The rest after the ad

We can see him on the red carpets in Los Angeles, but Omar Sy knows how to shine all over the world and more than ever in the city where he was born and grew up: Trappes. The town of honored the 46-year-old star by naming a cinema in his name. A great gift for those who, despite the immense success they experienced in 2010 with Untouchablesremains as attached to his origins as he discussed at length in his autobiographical book co-written with the journalist Elsa Vigoureux, Come let’s talk (Albin Michel editions).

For this event which took place on April 27, 2024, the actor and producer came accompanied by his wife of almost 17 years, Hélène Sy. Her faithful ally and mother of their five children was present but not only that. The one we will find on the jury of the Film Festival shared this moment with one of his childhood friends who surprised him by coming: Jamel Debbouze. He grew up like him in Trappes and lived in the same neighborhood as him, Les Merisiers, who was first friends with the older brother of the indescribable Doudou. A moving reunion for the one who has just revealed his new series Terminal relayed on his Instagram account, not without emotion and with “absolute pride“.

The town of Trappes was over the moon this weekend and offered 700 seats to its Trappists for the debut of its cinema Omar Sy – Grenier à sel. On his Instagram profile, Omar Sy wrote these words to complete his speech: “Still overcome by the emotion that surprised me yesterday. I admit to having underestimated what this moment could cause. Words failed me… I underestimated the sum of everything it could touch. So, I would like to complete my speech… Returning to Trappes, with such a welcome, was the first gift. Thank you Trappes, Mr Mayor and to the entire municipality. To the Trappists, I would like to renew my gratitude for the fraternity and warmth shared together. (…) To my family, the pride in your eyes fills me so much.”

Jamel and Omar, a lasting friendship

Omar Sy also spoke directly to his “brother Jamel” : “You are at the origin of this journey which is my journey. Your pride and emotion are powerful fuel. Thanks for all that.“To which he replied:”Thank you to Trappes for paying this tribute to Omar and through him, the youth and our parents.”

Jamel Debbouze likes to speak out to defend projects that are close to his heart. The husband of the no less committed producer Mélissa Theuriau – visibly absent at the event – and father of Léon and Lia also participated in an advertisement to support green gas. GRDF with its partners Coénove, Gaz Renouvelables, Professionnels du Gaz and Rosa have therefore chosen an approach through humor to show that they are ready to do anything – well, a lot – to challenge the general public about this energy of the future .

Laurence Poirier-Dietz, general director of GRDF, declared: “Faced with the climate emergency, decarbonization is no longer an option and green gas is an essential asset. Our unique approach is to approach this challenge with humor, thus carrying a serious message with lightness and optimism.
