(Keystone-ATS) The country of 5.4 million inhabitants is on red alert with strong winds, just like Northern Ireland and part of Scotland. The authorities have called on the inhabitants to stay at home.

Winds of more than 100 km/h fell on Ireland early Friday, and the National Meteorology Agency said that the historic record of 1945 had been broken with gusts measured at 183 km/h near Galway. The average wind speed record was also broken, with 135 km/h, corresponding to the “force of a hurricane”.

These winds cause significant disruptions, especially in transport. At Cork, Shannon, Dublin airports, many flights were canceled. Eowyn must then move to Scotland. The entire United Kingdom is placed in a state of vigilance.
