Lorenzo Sewell is the pastor of the evangelical “180 Church” in Detroit, Michigan. This Monday, he will officially participate, in front of television channels around the world, in the inauguration of Donald Trump. An immense pride for this African-American, former “street pharmacist” as he likes to present himself with humor – understand, drug dealer. “That someone like me could pronounce a blessing at the inauguration of the 47e President of the United States realizes, in my eyes, part of Martin Luther King’s dream,” he expressed in the American press.

The pastor does not seek to hide his atypical career, which he briefly presents on his Church’s website. “He grew up in a home where physical and verbal violence reigned,” we learn. While “his father went to prison and his younger brother killed”, the young teenager encountered difficulties at school which led him to “become heavily involved in drugs and drug trafficking, ultimately becoming a gang leader”. Before “meeting Christ” in 1999. He grants Temps an enlightening interview on the enthusiasm of the country’s evangelicals, who once again largely supported the Republican candidate.
