This new decision, introduced in accordance with Decree-Law No. 145 of October 11, 2024 (Urgent provisions regarding the entry into Italy of foreign workers, protection and assistance to victims of illegal work, management of migratory flows and international protection, as well as related legal procedures), will concern all type D visasparticularly for work, studies, family reunification, retirement and investments.
All the Schengen visa applicants must present themselves in order to register their biometric datanamely a photograph, taken at the time of the request, as well as the ten fingerprintsraised flat and digitized.
This collection of biometric datawhich must be submitted in person within Italian consulatesaims to strengthen the migration controls and to prevent risks of criminal infiltration. THE fingerprints will be kept for 59 months, allowing centralization of information to facilitate future procedures.
This reform is part of a broader framework of management of migratory flowsalso including provisions to protect victims of illegal work and adapt the legal proceedings related to immigration.
