An Azerbaijan Airlines jetliner, which was flying from Baku, the Azerbaijani capital, to Grozny, capital of the Russian Caucasian republic of Chechnya, with 67 people on board, crashed in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, officials said. authorities.

The plane fell near the city of Aktau in western Kazakhstan, according to the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations.

“The airliner flying from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau. This plane belongs to the airline Azerbaijan Airlines,” the Kazakh Ministry of Transport said in a statement.

“According to initial information from the Azerbaijani side, 62 passengers and 5 crew members were on board,” he said.

For its part, Azerbaijan Airlines indicated that it was an Embraer 190 plane which “made an emergency landing”.

“Information about the victims is being clarified. According to initial estimates, there are survivors,” stressed the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations.
