Revelry, knights and fights… Welcome to medieval New Year’s Eve at the Excalibur casino

To Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas has never been shy, even when snow falls in the middle of the Nevada desert. With the show Twas the Knight from the Tournament of Kings to the Excalibur casino, the Knights of the Round Table and Merlin remind us that the medieval era was classy… even on New Year's Eve.

So imagine a packed arena where knights in shining armor engage in epic battles, but this time with a little festive twist because it's Christmas. Merlin has swapped his old grimoire for a decorator's manual, without forgetting his red tunic which resembles that of Santa Claus. All with screaming spectators.

A 100% or almost medieval meal

The special effects are also there to remind us that even if we are supposed to be in the Middle Ages, Hollywood is never far away. Pyrotechnics, festive music and costumes… You might think the knights came straight out of the film Excalibur by John Boorman.

And on the menu? Roast Cornish hen, sweet potatoes and corn on the cob, to devour like “I’m a warrior”. A pumpkin dessert rounds it off, a nice reminder that in medieval times, no one counted calories. Vegetarians and gluten-free fans are not forgotten, and if eating with your hands reminds you of your childhood, rejoice: here, it's a tradition, cutlery is stored in the cupboards.

Fighting with pyrotechnic effects

At the exit, the audience has a smile on their faces (and fingers full of chicken). “It was incredible!” I was screaming for my champion like I was at a football match. And I can finally say that I ate a whole chicken with my hands without guilt,” Michael tells us. Others have some reservations, especially about food. “The show is great, but the meal… I had to use my imagination to taste the medieval era,” judges Daniel, a New Yorker who came to spend the holidays with his family in Las Vegas.

Well, we grant you… the Excalibur casino, located south of the Las Vegas Strip, is a bit kitsch. - MGM Resorts

But let's be honest: we don't come to attend Twas the Knight to become a food critic. No, we come there to see men in armor beating each other. That’s also the magic of Christmas in Vegas.
