The Minister of Communication, Alioune Sall, announced in a press release that he had received 307 new requests for media registration in the 72 hours following the publication of the list of media officially recognized by the State. This new influx now brings the total number of registration requests to 690.
Before validating these new requests, the ministry insisted on the need to carry out a rigorous verification to ensure compliance with the set criteria. According to the press release, these checks relate in particular to “operating authorizations for audiovisual media; Signing specifications for web TV; The identification of duplicates, in order to prevent the same journalist from occupying several functions; Compliance with legal obligations, including the requirement for online media to employ at least three professional journalists. »
To guarantee the conformity of the files, the ministry requested the support of the Ministry of Labor and the National Audiovisual Regulatory Council (CNRA). “These institutions will carry out additional verifications before publishing the final list of compliant media,” the note indicates.
This initiative is part of an approach aimed at cleaning up the media landscape and strengthening the credibility of press organizations, in the face of a proliferation of information platforms. The ministry is committed to continuing the necessary reforms to ensure a structured and professional media sector.
