Revelations on the key role of Macky Sall

Moroccan foreign intelligence services have discreetly begun long-term negotiations with the Nigerien military junta, with the aim of negotiating the release of Mohamed Bazoum, the former president of Niger, who has been detained since July 2023 in following a military coup.

According to information reported by Afrique Confidential, these delicate negotiations are facilitated by the intervention of a strategic mediator: Macky Sall, the former Senegalese president. Since the end of his mandate in 2024, Macky Sall, now based in Morocco, has used his personal relationships with Mohamed Bazoum to influence the Moroccan authorities and obtain their support in this liberation mission.

The two men have a long-standing relationship, dating back to their university days at the University of Dakar, where they were classmates. This friendship, forged in their youth, has lasted over the years and has been consolidated thanks to their political commitments and their regional alliances.

Macky Sall's involvement proved essential in establishing a dialogue of trust with the Nigerien junta. Thanks to his intimate knowledge of Mohamed Bazoum's situation and the generals' concerns, the former Senegalese president played a mediating role by calming tensions and reassuring all stakeholders.
