A 16-year-old teenager, suspected of raping and stealing from an 84-year-old retiree in October in Pont-de-Claix, France, was charged and placed in pre-trial detention, the Grenoble prosecutor's office said on Friday.
The facts date back to October 23, 2024, when a suspect broke into the home of the octogenarian, living alone in her house in Pont-de-Claix. After stealing valuable objects from her under threat, he forced her to undress before raping her, according to the same source.
A “major legal operation” allowed the arrest of the suspect, a 16-year-old minor previously unknown to the police, on December 17 in Pont-de-Claix, said prosecutor Éric Vaillant, confirming information from Dauphiné Libéré.
At the same time, another 17-year-old young person, already known for acts of fraud and suspected of having participated in the theft keeping watch outside the home, was arrested in Cannet-des-Maures (Var).
The father of the 17-year-old, suspected of being “the instigator of the theft during which the rape was committed” and already known for acts of violence or drug use, was in turn arrested shortly after in the Var, according to Mr. Vaillant.
All three were indicted. The youngest minor “admitted to the rape (and) was placed in pre-trial detention”. As for the two others accused, they “were placed under judicial supervision” according to the prosecutor.
