What man sends money to women he hasn’t dated?

During a secret vote held on December 5, the Ethics Committee of the House of Representatives reversed its decision not to make public its investigation report on former Florida Representative Matt Gaetz. All things considered, CNN revealed earlier Wednesday, the document will be released in the coming days, even though Gaetz left his seat after being nominated to serve as U.S. attorney general. Gaetz has since renounced his candidacy for this position.

In anticipation of the report’s release into allegations of sexual misconduct, illegal drug use and other parliamentary ethics violations, Gaetz declared his innocence on X. He said, among other things, that the Justice Department had “completely exonerated” him by deciding to end his criminal investigation against him without laying charges.

And he added this key passage: “When I was single, I often sent money to women I dated – even those I never dated but who asked. I have dated several of these women for years. I have NEVER had sexual contact with anyone under the age of 18. Any allegations to the contrary would be destroyed in a court of law – which is why no such allegation has ever been made in a court of law. My thirties were a time when I worked really hard – and also had a lot of fun. It is embarrassing, but not criminal, that I probably partied, dated women, drank and smoked more than I should have early in my life. Today, I lead a different life. »

I also lead a different life. And I lived my Roaring Twenties before the arrival of Venmo, Interact or other online payment services. It will therefore be up to the youngest readers of this blog to answer the question that covers this post.
