Li Jianping, former Communist Party secretary for the working committee of the economic and technological development zone of Hohhot, the regional capital, was sentenced to death in 2022.

“After approval by the Supreme People’s Court, the Intermediate People’s Court of the Xing’an League,” an administrative division of Inner Mongolia, “carried out the execution of Li Jianping on the morning of December 17, 2024, in accordance with law “, indicated the court in a press release.

A native of the central Hebei region, Li Jianping was sentenced to death in 2022 for using the privileges of his position to embezzle funds and collaborate with criminal organizations.

The death sentence was upheld earlier this year, despite Mr. Li’s appeal.

The former manager’s actions were considered “particularly serious” and their repercussions on the company “extremely damaging”, according to the court statement.

Since coming to power just over a decade ago, Chinese President Xi Jinping has overseen a sweeping campaign against corruption. His detractors believe that it also serves to purge his political rivals.

China keeps its official death penalty figures a state secret.

Human rights groups, including Amnesty International, estimate that thousands of people are executed in the country each year.
