A woman in the United Kingdom discovered that her son’s father, who left her two years after his birth, claiming he was wanted by the police, was in fact an undercover agent.
The woman in question, named Jacqui, testified last Thursday at the trial surrounding a spying scandal in activist and political groups that allegedly occurred in Scotland in the 1980s, reports The Guardian.
Her ex-spouse, Bob Lambert, allegedly had relationships with at least four women and even married one of them without telling them that he was an undercover police officer.
He is notably accused of having set fire to a business.
He was allegedly a senior member of this spy squad which involved 139 police officers who spied on tens of thousands of left-wing activists between 1968 and 2010.
It was in the media, more than 24 years after the birth of their son, that she discovered the truth about Mr. Lambert.
She said she was traumatized and required several hours of therapy in an attempt to make sense of what she learned.
“Everything about my life was ruined,” she told investigators. I don’t really have a life anymore.”
The animal rights activist at the time said she was “captivated” by Bob Lambert when she told him in 1984.
The latter would have shown no sign of regret or sign of opposition when she told him that she was pregnant.
Mr. Lambert, however, would have done everything in his power to prevent his name from being mentioned as the father on the child’s birth certificate after he was born.
He then allegedly told her, as well as several other activists, that he had to flee the country for Spain, because the police were about to arrest him in connection with actions for the welfare of animals, according to his say.
However, this would have been a false story which would have allowed him to disappear without raising suspicion.
He would then have resumed his activities within the police spy unit, without giving any news to his ex-partner.
It is by consulting an article from Daily Mail in 2012 that Jacqui allegedly saw Bob Lambert, identified as an undercover agent under investigation.
His trial will continue over the coming days in London.
