While Trump trumpeted on social media that Mexico had agreed to stop migratory flows to the United States, “effectively closing our southern border,” Claudia Sheinbaum stressed that she had only spoken about the migrant caravans which no longer reached the border with the United States.
“During our conversation with President Trump, I explained to him Mexico’s overall strategy to address the migratory phenomenon while respecting human rights. Thanks to this, migrants and caravans are taken care of before they reach the border,” notably wanted to clarify the Mexican president on the social network X, even adding: “We reaffirm that Mexico’s position is not to close borders, but to build bridges between governments and between peoples.”
