A traveler was arrested in Los Angeles after customs officials discovered methamphetamine-laced pajamas and clothing in his suitcases, totaling more than a kilo of the drug.
At the Los Angeles airport, customs agents intercepted a most astonishing shipment. A 31-year-old California resident attempted to board a flight to Sydney on November 6 with two suspicious suitcases. When the luggage was x-rayed, it aroused suspicion, prompting customs officers to carry out a thorough search.
Inside the suitcases, authorities found more than a dozen items of clothing, including an adult cow-patterned onesie. The fabrics, particularly rigid and covered with a fine white powder, quickly betrayed their secret: they had been soaked in a methamphetamine solution before being dried. In total, the clothes contained more than a kilo of the powerful and illegal drug.
“They never stop inventing creative ways.”
The suspect, charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, faces a sentence ranging from 10 years to life in prison if convicted.
“Drug traffickers continue to invent creative ways to smuggle dangerous narcotics for illicit profits” said Martin Estrada, federal prosecutor for central California, in a statement.
