China flexes its muscles and shows off its state-of-the-art warship

A state-of-the-art Chinese warship, seen as key to the country’s strategies in the South China Sea and Taiwan, entered Hong Kong’s port on Thursday, part of a communications campaign designed to showcase the country’s power Beijing’s increasingly sophisticated military.

The Hainan is one of three active warships of its type, and was spotted in the western Pacific near Japanese waters in August. More than 200 meters long, the ship can carry 30 helicopters, with a flight deck capable of operating six simultaneously.
