A forty-year-old from Las Vegas, who himself contacted the police authorities for help at the time of an invasion of his home, was shot six times by an American police officer, who allegedly mixed the victim and the assailant Tuesday.
“Brandon Durham was tragically and unjustly killed in his own home. In a moment of fear and need, Brandon called the police for help. Instead of receiving the protection he was seeking, he was fatally shot,” lamented family friend Renee Muniz in a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign on Saturday.
Very early Tuesday, around 12:40 p.m., the 43-year-old man was on the phone with 911 to report gunshots outside his home when he allegedly locked himself in his bathroom, stating that someone was coming to enter his home, according to a statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) reported by ABC7.
His 15-year-old daughter was then on the scene, he told the agents, according to the American media.
When the police arrived on the scene, they noticed damage to the front of the house, before hearing screams coming from inside.
It was then that agent Alexander Bookman, 26, allegedly broke down the front door to provide assistance, before coming face to face with two individuals in a door frame who were fighting over a knife, we can see in the footage from his body camera.
Except that after asking the duo to drop the weapon, the police officer allegedly opened fire straight at the half-naked man, who seemed to overpower the second hooded person.

In the graphic images circulating on social networks and which the QMI Agency chose not to share, we can then see him open fire five other times in the direction of the inert man on the ground.
The death of the man, identified as the owner of the premises who called for help, was noted on the spot despite attempts by medical staff to resuscitate him.
“Her 15-year-old daughter […] heard the devastating events unfold. This unimaginable loss left Isabella without her father and without answers as to why this happened,” reads the GoFundMe set up to support the teenager.
According to ABC7, the victim knew his attacker, identified as Alejandra Boudreaux, 31, with whom he had a relationship in the past, we can read.
Placed under arrest, the woman now faces four counts, including domestic assault with a deadly weapon, home invasion, wanton or willful disregard of safety leading to death and child abuse, neglect or endangerment.
An investigation would have been opened to look into the conduct of the police officer in this story. It is unclear whether or not he will face sanctions pending the completion of the investigation.
