Donald Trump is expected to nominate Kristi Noem, the Republican governor of South Dakota, to the key post of Minister of Homeland Security of the United States, despite the controversy sparked by this elected official who killed her pet.
By choosing this 52-year-old woman to head one of the main branches of the executive branch – this ministry notably supervises customs and border guards – the next president would ensure he has a loyal ally to implement his anti-immigration program, noted CNN in particular on Monday.
Kristi Noem is considered a pillar of the “Make America Great Again,” or MAGA, family, which brings together the most fervent Trumpists within the Republican Party. She particularly likes to appear on stage with firearms.
His name had been mentioned among the credible candidates likely to become Donald Trump's running mate in his third campaign for the White House.
But this ambition to become vice-president was dashed when the Republican governor revealed that she had shot and killed her young dog, because she was, according to her, “untamable”.
While dogs occupy a special place in the lives of many American families, this news caused a deluge of negative reactions in April in the political class, on social networks and on talk show sets.
Donald Trump is due to take office in January but is making strides in forming his future administration.
