A young Quebecer in favor of the right to abortion, but she does not dare to speak about it openly

An 18-year-old sportswoman who lives in Missouri is delighted that the right to abortion is being put forward in the Democrats’ electoral campaign. However, she does not dare to talk about it too much in this very conservative state.

“I think it’s important to discuss it, again in 2024, and I believe that women are first and foremost the ones who must have the option to decide what they do by choosing to keep a child or not” , says Alexia Chevrier, who lives in Hillsboro, Missouri.

Even if the Quebecer has a clear opinion on the subject, she keeps it to herself in a state where pro-Trump people, who are often pro-life, are numerous. The 18-year-old doesn’t necessarily fear people’s reactions, but she prefers to focus on her own journey with the Jefferson College softball team.

“To be 100% honest, I’ve noticed that there are several people who are campaigning for Donald Trump here in Missouri and when it comes to politics, I tend not to talk too much and instead try to slip away,” she said.

Great respect for Kamala

Originally from Saint-Lazare, in Montérégie, Alexia Chevrier has no desire to remake the world during her stay in the United States. The athlete is in her first year studying “a bit in the forest” in Hillsboro, where she is also honing her talent on the field.

Always discreetly, the young Quebecer adds that she has great respect for Kamala Harris who is trying to become the first president of the United States.

“Regardless of his ideas and regardless of the results of the next elections, I find that it takes courage to want to break down barriers in this way,” said the Vikings receiver.

If she does not yet have a clear idea of what her profession will be in the future, the Quebecer lets us guess that she will never enter politics herself. She’s not naturally interested in it, especially when it comes to American politics.
