We must give back to Caesar what is due to Caesar. Donald Trump aboard his garbage truck, what a stroke of genius!
The Fifth Avenue billionaire has never feared ridicule. He kissed him, claimed him.
We can imagine that the truck did not smell of rotting waste clogged in every corner of the machine.
And yet, the image said it all. Everything that’s wrong with America, everything that’s wrong with the Democrats, everything that’s wrong with Joe Biden and his presidency.
We would like to blame the ignorant and conspiratorial fanaticism of the MAGA.
But the fact that this megalomaniac, sexual predator, misogynist, criminal is at the door of the presidency reflects above all the failure of that of his predecessor.
Back in 2020
It is clear that Joe Biden did not rise to the occasion.
“I sought this position to restore the soul of America, to rebuild the backbone of America, the middle class, to make America respected again in the world,” he promised on 3 November 2020.
This soul is still so fractured. This stifled middle class. This America reduced to doing its best in the Middle East.
This is without taking into account that he described himself as a “bridge” between generations, a transitional president.
Of course, he never promised to stick to just one term. But he was the compromise candidate. It would be fine.
But, he held on. Above all, his administration ended up fueling the fury of those who had not voted for him.
Victim?
Blinded by their certainties, Democratic prosecutors have increased legal action against Donald Trump.
Everyone will have understood that Donald Trump was like the Al Capone of politics. We might end up catching him on something.
Beau concept.
Except that, in wanting to save American democracy from MAGA singers, the American justice system has failed. He will only have succeeded in discrediting it further among millions of voters who saw in Donald Trump the victim of elites ready to do anything to dampen the voice of the working classes who believed in him.
Sad truth
We quickly understood that Joe Biden chose Kamala Harris because she was a symbol. A symbol that would get him the votes he needed to win.
Because if he had really trusted her, he would have given way to her long in advance. Enough for her to make the primaries, to win them. Enough, above all, for her to learn and become formidable or lose to a better candidate.
But Joe Biden had his certainties. The same as those that the working classes reproach the elites for.
He held on. Too long.
Donald Trump has had time to plow the soil of resentment.
And Kamala Harris was thrust into the arena at the last minute with a near-impossible mission.
If Donald Trump wins on Tuesday, Joe Biden will only have himself to blame.
