a Chilean tourist created controversy after doing pull-ups on a traditional gate

Marimar Perez, a Chilean influencer traveling in Japan, found herself at the heart of a controversy after holding on and performing pull-ups on a torii, a traditional Japanese gate present near Shinto shrines.

A behavior that shocked the land of the rising sun. While traveling in Japan, a tourist from Chile created controversy after posting a video where she performs pull-ups on a “torii”, a traditional portico present near Shinto shrines.

Followed by more than 140,000 people on Instagram, Marimar Perez attracted the wrath of Internet users after publishing her video on the social network. Faced with numerous insults and comments against her, the influencer, who stood out during sports competitions in South America, deleted the publication.

In another video, Marimar Perez apologized to the public. “I want to apologize. I didn’t know how important this place is to Japanese culture, and I regret what happened,” she said.

In Japan, the behavior of many tourists has led local authorities to take action. For example, the city of Kyoto has banned access to the private alleys of its famous geisha district due to the inappropriate behavior of certain tourists towards them.
