Death of Sinouar: Hamas is “alive and will remain so”, assures Iranian supreme leader

Iran does not recognize the State of Israel, its sworn enemy, and has made support for the Palestinian cause one of the pillars of its foreign policy since the Islamic Revolution of 1979.

Yahya Sinouar “was a brilliant figure of resistance and struggle” against Israel, said Ayatollah Khamenei.

“He stood with unwavering determination against the cruel and aggressor enemy and slapped him with tact and courage,” he added.

Yahya Sinouar, long a man in the shadows before taking the head of Hamas this summer, is considered the architect of the unprecedented attack of the Palestinian Islamist movement on Israel on October 7, 2023, which has since plunged the region into a bloody conflict.

The day before Sinouar was appointed head of Hamas in August, the Iranian supreme leader posted on his website a video of a rare meeting with him dating back to 2011.

Yahya Sinouar was at the time a member of the delegation of the Palestinian Islamist movement led by Ismaïl Haniyeh, the former leader of the formation killed in Tehran at the end of July in a strike attributed to Israel, and whom he succeeded.
