Beaches closed in Sydney because of “mysterious black balls” (PHOTOS)

“These could be ‘tar balls’ that form when oil comes into contact with debris and water, usually following an oil spill or seepage,” the statement continued.

Gordons Bay beach, north of Coogee, was also closed until further notice due to debris on Wednesday “after more mysterious sphere-shaped debris was found on the beach”, the council said municipal.

Environmental protection officers took samples which were analyzed. Arrangements have further been made to safely remove the material while local authorities have advised the public to avoid the beach until further notice.
