The head of Iranian diplomacy, Abbas Araghtchi, met on Monday in Muscat (Oman) a senior official of the Houthi rebels in Yemen. His ministry released photos of the Houthi’s main negotiator, Mohammed Abdelsalam, speaking in the Omani capital with Mr. Araghtchi, who increased visits to the region after Israel vowed to retaliate for the missile attack launched by Iran against its territory on 1is october.
The Houthis, who control large parts of Yemen, are part, notably with Hamas and Hezbollah, of “the axis of resistance” led by Iran which brings together armed groups opposed to Israel. Before Muscat, Mr. Araghchi successively visited Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iraq, for discussions focused on the search for a ceasefire in Lebanon and Gaza, and the ways to prevent the war from spreading throughout the region.
