“We call for pressure on Israel to respect the ceasefire,” Mr. Mikati said in a statement, after a night of intense Israeli bombardments on the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold.

“We reiterate our support” for the international call for a ceasefire, added the prime minister.

and Washington, joined by Arab, Western and European countries, called in September for an immediate 21-day ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon to “give diplomacy a chance.”

Mr. Mikati also thanked the French president who “once again supported Lebanon” by announcing the organization of an international support conference in October.

He also welcomed Mr. Macron’s call to stop deliveries of certain weapons to Israel, which provoked the fury of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Shame,” the Israeli leader raged on Saturday evening to the French president.

This reaction “proves the correctness of the French position”, according to Mr. Mikati.

“In Lebanon, we have experienced the honorable positions of President Macron in his support for Lebanon, its stability and sovereignty, as well as his tireless efforts to end the continued Israeli aggression against our people and our land” , he added.
