a foreign national among the victims

A serious explosion struck a convoy of foreign nationals late Sunday night near the international airport in Karachi, Pakistan’s main commercial hub. According to police authorities and local media, this explosion caused the death of at least one person and injured eight others, including a foreigner.

Zia Lanjar, interior minister of Sindh province where Karachi is located, told reporters that the explosion targeted a vehicle carrying foreigners near the airport, resulting in the death of one person. The injured were evacuated to a hospital, but the minister did not detail their nationality. Among them, the condition of two individuals is said to be critical.

Images relayed by the Geo News channel showed a huge cloud of smoke enveloping several damaged vehicles, while firefighters worked to bring the fire under control. According to statements by the Minister of the Interior, the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device. The detonation was perceptible several kilometers from the site of the incident.

The civil aviation authority said in a statement that all airport infrastructure is safe and flight schedules have not been disrupted. This attack constitutes the second terrorist incident in less than two weeks targeting foreign nationals in Pakistan. Last month, a similar explosion killed a police officer in the northwest of the country.
