26 dead after Israeli strikes on mosque and school in Gaza

At least 26 people died in the central Gaza Strip in Israeli strikes on a mosque and a school welcoming displaced people, the Hamas Health Ministry announced on Sunday.

“The toll after the strikes on displaced people in the Ibn Rushd school and the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Mosque in the Deir al-Balah region is 26 martyrs and dozens of injured,” the ministry said in a press release.

The Israeli army assured that it had struck “Hamas terrorists who were operating in a command and control center located in a structure which previously served as a mosque”, without giving a precise assessment.

The war in Gaza was sparked by an unprecedented Hamas attack on Israeli soil on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of 1,205 people, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures, including hostages. dead or killed in captivity in the Gaza Strip.

During the offensive carried out in response by Israel, at least 41,870 Palestinians were killed in Gaza, the majority civilians, according to figures from the Hamas government’s Ministry of Health deemed reliable by the UN.
