Another tragic death of a Palestinian journalist has been reported following an Israeli airstrike in the northern Gaza Strip, according to an announcement by the local government media office on Sunday.

The toll of journalists killed since October 7, 2023 now stands at 175. The Gaza media office identified the victim as Hassan Hamad, but provided no further details on the exact circumstances of his death.

In its statement, the office expressed strong indignation at these losses: “We condemn in the strongest terms the targeting, killing and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation.” This declaration calls on the international community as well as international organizations to act to deter these acts and bring the occupation to justice before international courts for the crimes committed.

Furthermore, Israel continues its military offensives on Gaza in response to the attack carried out by the Hamas group on October 7, defying a United Nations Security Council resolution which demands an immediate ceasefire. These clashes have caused the deaths of nearly 41,900 people, the majority of whom are women and children, and injured more than 97,100 others, according to reports from local health authorities in Gaza.

The blockade imposed by Israel on the territory has led to a massive displacement of the population, accentuating shortages of food, drinking water and medicine. Israel’s actions in Gaza are currently the subject of a genocide claim filed before the International Court of Justice.
