The Moroccan caftan, star of the BRICS+ Fashion Summit in Moscow

It was in Moscow that the Moroccan caftan shone during the BRICS+ Fashion Summit, which ends on October 5. And the reception could not have been more enthusiastic, both from fashion enthusiasts and industry experts, who came in large numbers to this event, which aims to be a platform for developing global interactions in the field of fashion for emerging countries.

Before dazzling the catwalk, the selection of outfits was made by the Silk Road and Al Andalus Association, an international platform dedicated to Moroccan and oriental fashion, created in 2024 by Hind Joudar.

For Wafaa Daoui, member of the association, “it’s about highlighting Moroccan culture and our know-how in the field of fashion. The Brics+ Fashion Summit is a platform to meet other organizations and discuss collaboration possibilities“, she said in an interview with MAP.

According to her, the Moroccan caftan enjoys particular notoriety in the sphere of oriental fashion. “The Moroccan caftan is a unique piece. Beyond the outfit, there is a whole story and a storytelling”she explained, noting that the Brics+ Fashion Summit helped to highlight the history of traditional Moroccan dress and the limitless creativity of the Kingdom’s master craftsmen.

She underlines the importance of promoting collaboration between African fashion designers, present in force at this event. She also announced the holding of “Marrakech Fashion Week” next February, which will welcome stylists from different countries. She also recalled the promotional work carried out by the association in favor of 200 Moroccan stylists and its collaboration in more than ten fashion shows around the world.

For several years, the association has been organizing the Oriental Fashion Show (OFS), the first fashion event dedicated to oriental artistic creations. More than a parade, the OFS is a true artistic platform and a cultural dialogue between the East and the West.

According to the organizers, the BRICS+ Fashion Summit is a major event for the fashion industry of emerging countries. Africa is represented by delegations from more than 30 countries. The summit also welcomes delegations from China, India, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Brazil, Malaysia, Latin America and Europe.

Launched in 2023 to promote diversity and support for local talents, in a context of competition with large global companies, this international meeting offers a business program, an international exhibition dedicated to heritage as well as master classes led by international fashion industry experts.

This conclave is also an opportunity to reflect on themes that interest the sector such as the impact of fashion on the economy, the export of creations to BRICS+ countries or sustainable production.
