“A new important and symbolic step has been reached”

The images were impressive, but fortunately they seem far behind us. The resting of the eight bells of Notre-Dame de cathedral “has just ended with that of the Gabriel bell”, announced the French Minister of Culture on Saturday, almost two months before the reopening of the building.

The eight bells of the North Tower, removed to clean or restore them after the fire of April 15 which partially destroyed this masterpiece of Gothic art, began to be reinstalled on September 12.

The “rest (…) has just ended with that of the Gabriel bell, the heaviest of the eight (4,162 kg)”, declared Rachida Dati on the X network.

The public establishment responsible for the restoration, for its part, published a video on Instagram on Friday showing the assembly and installation of this last “Gabriel” bell by the teams of this extraordinary project which is in its home stretch.

“The faithful and Parisians will once again be able to hear the sound calls and the marking of time launched from the top of the towers of our Paris cathedral,” added Rachida Dati, stressing that “a new important and symbolic step (has been) reached , 64 (sic) days from the reopening” scheduled for December 7.
