Nineteen people were killed Sunday in a bus accident that left the road in southern Bolivia, apparently due to excessive speed, police said. The vehicle, which was going from La Paz to Villazon, on the border with Argentina, left the roadway while taking a turn before overturning, Colonel Wilson Flores, commander of the border police, told AFP from Uyuni.

“Unfortunately, there are 19 dead: 14 women, three men and two children,” he said, adding that nine other people, including the driver who was taken into custody, were injured. The accident, which took place in the department of Potosi, was caused “apparently by excessive speed,” added the police commander.
