The Colombian government announced on Sunday that it would send its presidential plane to the United States to transport “dignity” immigrants in an irregular situation that the Trump administration wanted to expel earlier in military aircraft and from which Bogota refused entry.

“The government of Colombia, under the direction of President Gustavo Petro, made the presidential plane available to facilitate the return to the dignity of nationals who were to arrive in the country this morning, by expulsion flights,” said the presidency in a press release.

“A migrant is not a criminal and must be treated with dignity that a human being deserves. This is why I have made American military planes repressed which transported Colombian migrants,” wrote the president earlier Sunday left on X.

“Not criminals”

Gustavo Petro, criticism of American president Donald Trump, did not specify how many flights from the United States were to land in Colombia, or how many expelled migrants they transported.

“I cannot make sure that migrants remain in a country that does not want them, but if this country returns them, it must be done with dignity and respect for them and for our country,” said M .

“We will welcome our nationals in civil aircraft, without treating them as criminals,” he said.

Since the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20, the United States has not expelled migrants in an irregular situation towards Colombia, but this has been the case towards Guatemala and Brazil.
