While a new storm is expected, hundreds of thousands of homes in Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland were still without electricity overnight from Saturday to Sunday.

This after Storm Eowyn passed through on Friday, and which the British Weather Service described as “probably the strongest” over the United Kingdom for at least ten years. Éowyn caused one death, grounded planes and closed schools.

During this episode, Ireland recorded the strongest wind gusts in its history.

A new weather phenomenon, Storm Herminia, is expected in both countries over the weekend. The weather services have issued new warnings for snow, ice, wind and rain for Sunday and Monday.

Continuing its efforts to repair the damage caused by Storm Eowyn, Irish company ESB Networks said it had restored power to 366,000 homes, farms and businesses on Saturday evening. But it reports that 402,000 people are still without power.
