More than 200 doctors and nurses carry out organ transplants in the days preceding the Têt

On the last working day of the dragon year, more than 200 doctors and nurses at the University Hospital of Medicine and Ho Chi Minh Ville pharmacy have taken a sample and transplantation of organs from a donor Brain death, thus saving the lives of four people.

The hospital announced, on January 26, to have taken a heart, a liver and two kidneys on a donor in a state of brain.

Admitted to the hospital in critical condition, the patient had received intensive care, but his condition had worsened until brain death. After consultation, the experts confirmed that the patient was eligible for organ donation. Sensitized by the importance of this gesture, the family agreed to donate organs in order to save other seriously ill patients.

On January 24, the hospital coordinated a consultation with specialized units to plan the levy and transplantation of the organs. Preparations have included an assessment of patients on the waiting list to guarantee compatibility with the given organs.

The same day, medical teams took turns to take the heart, the liver and the kidneys, then quickly proceed to transplants throughout the night. More than 200 health professionals and logistics staff have collaborated to give a new chance of life to four patients.

The heart was transplanted to a 12 -year -old boy suffering from restrictive cardiomyopathy. The liver was given to a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma, while the two kidneys were transplanted to two patients with terminal kidney failure.

The pr. Associé-dr. Nguyên Hoàng Bac, director of the hospital, expressed his deep gratitude to the donor’s family. He praised their generosity and humanity, stressing that this noble gesture not only revived others, but also propagated inspiring human values.

Previously, the University Hospital of Medicine and Pharmacy had also taken successful samples and transplants from donors, saving six patients. Among the organs taken, the heart and two cornea had been transferred to the Huê central hospital to be transplanted to two people, while the liver and two kidneys had been transplanted to patients with liver and d cancer and D cancer respectively ‘Terminal renal failure within the same hospital.
