- A Michael Page survey reveals a salary of 300,000 francs on average for the human resources manager in charge of an entire multinational.
- Rare positions, which, beyond the classic functions of HRD, include a strategic role but also of head hunter.
- In French -speaking Switzerland, in eight out of ten cases, the term HR manager still overlaps with very operational functions.
Bad tongues will say that they have the high hand on the pay sheets. Except that, within the directions, these posts had so far had the reputation of winning the bet.
Times change. According to the latest study on the remuneration of Michael Page, the highest posts of human resources are unclogging among the best paid functions within large groups. The network of recruitment firms evokes up to 400,000 francs for a “senior vice-president HR director”.
“Beyond the more classic organizational skills and management of numerous staff, we are talking about specialists with the best network, in sectors where a recruitment war reigns,” said Mathilde de Mareuil, manager of an agency active placement in the trading of raw materials in Geneva.
Multinational big cups
At the top of the remuneration of hundreds of positions identified by Michael Page, appear – without surprise – those of the managers of “private banking” in finance or financial departments of multinationals, which exceed 300,000 francs annual to climb up to 500 ‘000 francs. Before bonuses and other interests.
At these levels, the appearance of a personnel management position is detached. The classification shows a gross salary of 300,000 francs on average – and which can go up to 400,000 francs – for a “Chief Human Resources”, in charge of the entire workforce of a multinational. In these large groups, an HR director oscillates around 230,000 francs and can go up to 280,000 francs. Against 180,000 francs on average in an SME.
“It should not be forgotten that for HR officials worldwide – or a continent – multinationals are based on a salary grid corresponding to that of large groups on the stock market, especially American, whose levels remain very high” , Recalls for her part Anne Donou, director for French -speaking Switzerland within Von Rundstedt, a network of agencies specializing in human resources consulting and career management.
-There is HRD and HRD
In reality, the HR departments include a host of different posts, often administrative and unrelated in terms of remuneration – an HR assistant or its male colleague affects around 80,000 francs.
“In French -speaking Switzerland, in eight out of ten cases, the term HR manager still overlaps of very operational functions, linked to recruitment, support for the employee’s life cycle, remuneration – in this case, his level of Compensation remains similar to that practiced in the past, ”decrypts Marine Moncozet, director of Michael Page Geneva, and in charge of HR profiles.
“But you also have much more strategic positions – for example those of Chief HR Officer, responding directly to the CEO and participating in the management committee,” continues the latter. The specialist evokes “a crucial role aimed at shaping the culture of a business and optimizing talent management – by developing innovative HR strategies”. At this level, “wages can be between 250,000 and 400,000 francs, we are talking about large groups whose CEOs have understood the strength brought by such positions … which is, alas, not always the case ”, Marine Moncozet nuance.
“Traders” hunter
Salaries also linked to the sector concerned. Example, in raw materials, where companies are trying to attract the best executives and traders of competitors. “This permanent pressure, which has reached an unparalleled level in recent years, will demand to have the HR heads who know everyone, sometimes former head hunters,” explains Mathilde de Mareuil, the director General of the Shipping & Trading Network agency.
The latter also quotes the small world of alternative investment funds – the “hedge funds”. “It remains very difficult to find such officials with, in parallel, the experience of managing several hundred collaborators – from traders to technicians of port terminals”, adds this head hunter, confirming the remuneration of the investigation Michael Page.
