Morgien Benoît Cornut will benefit from an artistic residency in Cairo (Egypt), from August 1, 2025 to January 31, 2026. Thanks to a writing and photography project, he won the competition set up by the City of Morges, in collaboration with the Conference of Cities in Cultural Matters.

The winner Benoît Cornut will create a literary collection combining interviews, observations, journalistic writing and creative writing, enhanced with photos. It questions multiple identities, particularly those often contradictory which characterize the Egyptian population. The development of his work “Cairo: the triumphant and the forgotten” will take the form of an exhibition and a literary production.

The promising career of the artist and his excellent project, which deals with the historical and cultural heritage of Cairo, attracted the Municipality. Direct immersion in the country’s culture fully justifies such a residence. An exhibition following the artist’s return is planned for 2026, at Espace 81.

Talent awards

Benoît Cornut, born in Morges 31 years ago, is a journalist with a Bachelor’s degree in political science. He received a prize for excellence at the Morges gymnasium and worked for five years at the Journal de Morges, where he discovered the world of photography which fascinated him. Then he turned to radio, before embarking on a nine-month journey through the Balkans, Greece and Turkey to meet people and question their relationship to identity.
