The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, promised Sunday to defend the citizens of her country who live in the United States, on the eve of the return to the White House of Donald Trump who plans to massively expel illegal migrants.
In this new period that arrives tomorrow with President Trump: first, we will defend the Mexicans there
Ms. Sheinbaum said during a public event in the state of Puebla.
Ms. Sheinbaum alluded, without mentioning it, to the announced plan of the next American president to massively deport undocumented immigrants living in the United States, including millions of Mexicans.
She noted that her government has hired lawyers to provide support to immigrants who need it through Mexico’s approximately 50 consulates in the United States.
And if they decide to return to Mexico (…), they are welcome here, with open arms
she added.
The left-wing president, however, recalled that her predecessor and mentor, Andrés Manuel Lopez Obrador, had of course
with Donald Trump during the latter’s first term (2017-2021).
This is why I think that we will reach a good understanding, that we will understand each other
