Faced with Musk’s algorithms and Trump’s taxes, Brussels tries to flex its muscles

While Europe has been the target, since the start of 2025, of multiple political interference from billionaire Elon Musk, through his social network threatened during its campaign the Old Continent with implementing significant customs duties, the European Commission launched the counter-offensive on Friday January 17, three days before Mr. Trump’s inauguration. She thus announced measures intended to demonstrate that she will respond to attacks from the next tenant of the White House and his cronies.

While Brussels has already opened, since the end of 2023, several investigations concerning “three additional technical investigation measures regarding the platform’s recommendation system”. She now intends to shed light on the manipulation of algorithms which promote certain content, and in particular that of Elon Musk. For several days, and many MEPs have been demanding that the Commission apply the DSA firmly.
