Special prosecutor David Weiss, who investigated the two criminal proceedings against Hunter Biden, son of the outgoing US president, criticized Joe Biden for his “false accusations” which, according to him, undermine confidence in the judicial system.

The special prosecutor made these remarks in his voluminous report submitted last week to Justice Minister Merrick Garland, who made it public Monday.

Joe Biden exercised his presidential pardon in early December in favor of his son Hunter, 54, before his sentencing in two separate cases of illegal possession of a firearm and tax evasion, claiming that he had been the victim of “a miscarriage of justice”.

“No reasonable person who examines the facts in the Hunter cases can come to any other conclusion than this: Hunter was singled out solely because he is my son,” assured the outgoing Democratic president. .

“This statement is unjustified and false,” prosecutor Weiss replies in his report.

“Other presidents have pardoned family members, but none have done so by taking the opportunity to slander Justice Department officials based solely on false accusations,” he points out.

“These prosecutions were the result of thorough and impartial investigations and not of partisan political considerations,” adds David Weiss, recalling that they were validated by eight different judges from various jurisdictions.

“Challenging these decisions and instilling partisanship in the independent administration of the law undermines the very foundation of what makes the American justice system fair and just. This erodes the population’s confidence in an institution essential to the preservation of the rule of law,” he laments.

“Far from being selective, these prosecutions were an illustration of the equal application of justice – whoever you are or whatever your last name is, you are subject to the same laws as anyone else in the United States,” insists the special prosecutor.

Hunter Biden, a lawyer and businessman turned artist who recovered from years of drug and alcohol addiction, is a favorite target of the Republican opponents of the outgoing president, Donald Trump in the lead, who consider him to be Joe Biden’s Achilles heel.
