A fire in a restaurant claimed the lives of six people and left eight injured on the night of Saturday January 11 to Sunday January 12. The events occurred in Most, in the northwest of the Czech Republic, approximately 70 km from the capital. The fire was reported around 11 p.m., said local media. “Despite all efforts, the fire had tragic consequences for six people”declared the firefighters on X (formerly Twitter).

Among the eight injured, six are seriously injured. They were treated by hospitals in Prague, Most and in the regional capital of Usti nad Labem, details Info, citing AFP. As for the fire, it was brought under control around 1 a.m.

A heavier toll avoided

The toll could have been higher if emergency services had not intervened. In total, around sixty fire fighters were on site to put out the flames or come to the aid of the victims. According to the Czech Interior Minister, around 30 people from the restaurant and an adjacent building were evacuated at the time of the fire.

The exact causes of the fire have not yet been revealed. For now, the most likely cause would be a gas radiator. According to the firefighters, the object would have “probably” was overturned and accentuated the spread of the fire on the site. Radio Prague International adds that the police have opened an investigation and that the restaurant street will remain closed during the procedure.
