INTERNATIONAL – A family fad? While Donald Trump has relaunched the idea of joining Greenland to the United States, his eldest son will visit the autonomous Danish territory, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Monday January 6. A region of the Arctic which was already in the Republican's sights during his first term.
Trump still wants to buy Greenland, the Prime Minister responds
The Republican president-elect said on his Truth network that his son would be accompanied by others “representatives”. “Greenland is an incredible place and its people, if and when they become part of our nation, will benefit enormously”he further underlined.

“We will protect (Greenland), and we will cherish it,” added the 78-year-old billionaire, who will be sworn in on January 20, concluding: « Make Greenland Great Again ».
He attached to his message the video of a man, presented as an inhabitant of the island, who wears the emblematic red cap of the Trumpists with the slogan « Make America Great Again »and who says he is in favor of a takeover by the United States.
Just before Christmas, Donald Trump had already judged that “For national security and freedom throughout the world, the United States of America believes that ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity”.
Not an “official visit”
The government of the immense Arctic island then responded that it was not for sale, echoing its response to similar statements by Trump in 2019.
“We have taken note of Donald Trump Jr's planned visit to Greenland”Danish diplomacy wrote to AFP, specifying that it was not a question of “an official American visit”.
Donald Trump Jr's visit, no details of which have been made public, is private, a Greenlandic diplomat, Mininnguaq Kleist, told Danish public television DR. According to him, the visitor, known to be very close to his father, should not meet Greenlandic officials during his stay.
