What if we let go of our beautiful 2025 resolutions?

What if we let go of our beautiful 2025 resolutions?
What if we let go of our beautiful 2025 resolutions?

With this beginning of the year which marks the quarter of a century, I feel the urgency. The need to become a better version of myself. It’s cliché. I know. But I cannot escape the immense pressure from social networks which push us these days to rethink our way of being. Have you seen all these messages about taking control of yourself? “Take out the bad guy”, “start fresh”, “shake your cage!”.

Because if we are to believe the makers of good intentions, 2025 is synonymous with profound social and spiritual transformation. A pivotal year full of promise, but also worrying challenges: growing geopolitical tensions, urgent climate issues, significant technological upheavals. Even the planetary cycles announce periods of reflection and renewal. Blame it on Saturn and Neptune. And that comes with the obligation to change yourself. Bad program!

We just want to be “more better”

What follows is our list of resolutions that are as ambitious as they are unrealistic. And the thousand and one things we can do to break our bad habits. Quick and effective fitness programs abound. We wonder why we didn’t succumb sooner to these turnkey solutions to be less tired, less stressed, less preoccupied, less perfectionist, less negative, less irritable, less sad, less angry, less anxious, less impatient. , less envious, less easily influenced, less rigid, less disorganized, less impulsive, less demanding, less resentful, less egocentric, less pessimistic. Phew!

We impose harsh action plans on ourselves that will not last beyond Valentine’s Day. We know it, but we set out the same way, with the hope of someone who has never failed. We agree to make ourselves suffer with the promise of feeling better.

We are ready to do anything to be fitter, more beautiful, slimmer, thinner, younger, healthy, kinder, calmer, more productive, more attentive, more energetic, more inspired, more relaxed, more optimistic, more creative, more balanced, more serene, more conscious, more loved. Happier finally!

An anxiety-provoking message

This message of transformation is intended to be positive. But it comes with a big dose of stress. “What? Don’t you have five minutes to change your life?” We feel obligated to look in our backyard to see what’s lying around. As Marthe Laverdière would say: “There are always weeds that grow back! Don’t leave it there! You have to tear it off!”

Reflecting our insecurities, our resolutions express what we think we should be in the eyes of others, and not what really makes us feel good. This is why they fail so often. Happiness does not lie in a list of things to accomplish, but in small moments of grace.

What will be good for you today? Maybe it will be running a 5k or doing housework. Or watching a series while eating homemade soup, slumped on the sofa. There are only good answers.
