Bosnian Security Minister Nenad Nesic was arrested on Thursday as part of a corruption investigation, dating back to when he was director of a state-owned road construction and management company, he said. announced the prosecution.

Before being appointed Minister of Security in January 2023, Mr. Nesic was director (2016-2020) of the company in question, “Putevi Republike Srpske”, a public enterprise of the Bosnian Serb entity responsible for construction and of road management.

The current director of the company, Milan Dakic, is among those arrested, according to the same source. The other people arrested had contracts with the company.

Mr. Nesic is chairman of the People's Democratic Union (DNS) political party and a close associate of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik.

Mr. Dodik immediately denounced on social networks “a completely unacceptable affair” by the prosecution whose objective is, according to him, “the hunt for executives of the Republika Srpska in order to destabilize it”.

Mr. Dodik himself has been on trial since the beginning of the year before a Sarajevo court for non-compliance with the decisions of the International High Representative, responsible for ensuring compliance with the Dayton peace accords.
