A seven-year-old student was killed on Friday and several others as well as a teacher injured by an assailant armed with a knife in a primary school in Zagreb, an unprecedented attack in Croatia, announced the Minister of Health.

Five people were injured in this attack “including a child who, unfortunately, died on the spot after an attempt at resuscitation”, declared the Minister of Health, Irena Hrstic, to journalists.

“The deceased child was seven years old,” she added, expressing her “indignation” at this attack.

In a primary school

All the other injured, three students and a teacher, were hospitalized and their lives are not in danger, she added. The assailant, who attempted suicide after carrying out his attack, was also hospitalized. The attack occurred at a primary school in the Precko district of Zagreb.

Earlier in the day, police said the attacker had been “put under the control” of law enforcement. It is a 19-year-old man, according to Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic.

At the start of the afternoon, a dozen police cars, flashing lights on, were parked in front of the school, and forensic doctors dressed in white overalls were on site, noted an AFP journalist. A security perimeter was set up and the area was cordoned off.

Croatian media published photos of helicopters landing near the school to transport injured people.

“Tragedy”

“We are shocked, like the entire Croatian population, by the tragedy that occurred in this primary school,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.

The mayor of Zagreb Tomislav Tomasevic, Davor Bozinovic, and the Minister of Education Radovan Fuchs, visited the site.

Last year, neighboring Serbia was rocked by two shootings that occurred in less than 48 hours, including a school massacre in Belgrade in which a 13-year-old student killed nine of his classmates and a security guard. ‘establishment.
