The new Constitution of Gabon will definitively apply after the elections, the date of which is not yet known but which will take place no later than August 2025.
In his speech on December 19, 2024 in Libreville, General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema welcomed the promise kept and the progress of the referendum process. He considered that the new republic must be “the antipodes” of the previous regime: “The maturity of the different actors, the national unity, the tolerance, the respect for others and the transparency which prevailed throughout this process prove today that Gabon has made a qualitative leap towards a new era. This fundamental law is called to be the reflection of our history and the platform of our hopes. »

The Constitutional Court in Gabon definitively validated on November 29 the adoption of the new Constitution approved in mid-November by referendum, with 91.64% “yes”, a key step in the return to constitutional order.
The adoption of the new Constitution was followed by the opening of consultations for a revision of the electoral code, with a view to the presidential, legislative and local elections, scheduled for 2025 to close the transition period born from the overthrow of the Bongo dynasty. August 30, 2023.
